How to change an Estonian Company name?

Changing the name of your Estonian company involves several steps and specific documentation. This guide will walk you through the entire process.

Step 1: Verify Name Availability

Before proceeding with the company name change, you must verify that the registrar will accept your proposed new name. Use the official name query tool: https://ariregister.rik.ee/eng/name_query

Important considerations:

  • The most common obstacle is existing trademarks that cover your company's business activity and conflict with your desired name

  • If your company is still in formation, consider changing the business activity to resolve trademark conflicts

  • Name availability checks are not 100% accurate—sometimes names flagged as "probably not acceptable" are actually approved, and vice versa

Step 2: Preparing Required Documents

Once you've decided to proceed with the name change, next documents must be prepared:

  1. Shareholders' resolution (decision) regarding the company name change

  2. New Articles of Association reflecting the name change

  3. Application to the Business Register

Step 3: Signing documents

Now almost everybody can sign all documents digitally - no e-residency required.

Read more about how Estonian company documents can be signed digitally.

Step 3: Submit and Pay

After signing all documents:

  • Pay the state fee of €25

  • Submit your application to the Business Register

If you don’t have e-residency, we provide guidance on submitting the registration amendment documents and paying the state fee.

Processing Time

The registrar typically processes name change applications within five business days after receiving all required documents and payment.
